Rubber Floor Mats

Post by kentdaryl »

:? I've got a question I haven't seen posted yet,
I'm rebuilding a '70 Sport Custom and it has the original green interior with a green dashpad, etc. The rubber floor mat is also a speckled green and black sort of color. The problem is that the mat needs replacing and the only color I've seen available is black. Other than going to carpet, any suggestions? Thanks.

Gosh, good luck,Kent...I think those speckled ones look real neat...I think I've seen them in red, blue and maybe tan also...but usually pretty beat up...It's hard to imagine a supplier manufacturing them in those speckled colors with such a small demand...I wondered the same thing about the Ranger headliners, that were sort of a beige-ish white multicolor(they only seem to carry solid off-white or gray)...

Mine originally had a black mat,but I went with carpet to quiet down the road noise, among other things...There's a picture of a plain '72 Custom on e-bay that has a black mat to go along with the all-green interior...and I can safely tell you that it is original to the truck...Good luck...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

I have never seen the colored mats, ropopped or NOS. I have not even seen that many original ones. I did have a 69 Custom Cab with the blue and I have been looking at a 69 Ranger short bed that still has a decent blue one. I would love to find a source for those as I don't like carpet in trucks.
They were obsolete at the dealerships already in 79 so the chances of finding a new one is slim to none.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Yeah, I figured as much. Unless I come across a miracle find I'll probably just go with carpet. I'm with you willowbilly, I prefer the rubber mat but not only is my mat green, but my dashpad and steering wheel are also green so it might look odd with the black mat.
Thanks for the info,
Daryl

I bought a new rubber floor mat for my Ford a while back. I have yet to put it in, so I don't know how it will fit. I got it for $10 so it was worth the risk. I can't find a manufactures name or any info on it except codes and numbers. Maybe there is still some one out there making them or this could be somethimg that was leftover from a few years ago. I will check it out some more to see if I can get more info from it.

I have the green speckled floor mat in my truck, I like it. The replacement mats I have seen don't cover as much as the cab floor, they stop short of the floor pan raised area where the seat brackets bolt down. At least the ones I've seen, from Dennis Carpenter.
Former owner of 70 LB SportCustom and a 71 SB SportCustom. Looking for a replacement bump!
