what is the 2 wire harness comming out of the column?

Not supposed to be there. You'll have to follow the wires.

if it a 73 and up column it is for the hazard switch in the column. or it could be that you havew the two plug column. without looking it up i'm not sure what it does. but the 67- 72 columns have either a 6 wire plug or a four and a two wire plug there should be connectors for all of your plugs. unless someone has cut the plugs off. then you have to match the colors to hook them back up right.
