'73 f100 drum brakes

Post by lobuck76 »

I junked out a '73 f100 that had drum brakes on the front. Could that have been a mid year change to disc brakes? It was the '73 to '79 bodystyle. I never looked at the dom. I saw that in the did you know. It made me think about it. fwiw

One thing you will find out about old Fords is they didn't make all changes right at the new model introduction. They made running production changes. I have a late production 72 (august 72 build date) and have had to use some 73 parts before, like the master cylinder. 69 is a year that they made a bunch of changes mid year on the F-250 chassis and you always need the serial number to buy anything like pinion seals ect. If your 73 is a 4x4 it came with drum brakes anyway.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

After getting the 74 f-100 with disc brakes, I've been getting a bit spoiled...
My 68 has the drums, and I haven't had any real trouble with them, but the disc's sure do stop better...Maybe some day if I work up the energy required, I might convert the 68 over to disc..MK

I have four drums with a booster on my truck, and I am really impressed with them. I know they are new, but they sure do stop well. Very impressed with the lack of fade even when I am doing repetitive HOT stops and slow-downs.
