Just a ring connector crimped / soldered on the end of the wire is all you need.

Cool... thanks man! I'm debating right now between just running a new wire all the way to the coil, which would only require 1 splice, or doing it as my diagram shows, which would obviously require two splices but like you said would look more "stock" in the engine compartment. I'm leaning toward the interior 2-splice route right now.
