question!

Post by Supermike »

Looking great! Can't wait to see more! Man... you are moving so fast on this! Want to do mine next? :)

A few more questions... since this is a Camper Special, you obviously have the camper mirrors. I noticed it looks like you've put new hardware on them. WHERE did you find the little thin, flat-backed nuts that go where the mirror connects along the top of the door (the ones that look like little T's with the small acorn on the outside)?

Also... what did you use to clean/polish the mirror arms?

Finally... I noticed it doesn't look like you painted the inside of the bed. Are you planning a spray-in bedliner? If so, are you doing a color-match, or just black?

1) I did replace about $40 worth of hardware on the mirrors with SS. why ford put zinc plated stuff on the stainless arms I'll never know. Anyway, the little 'T' bolts at the top of the mirror arms could not be found new so I had to reuse the originals which were in really good shape so no problem. 2) I just used 'Mother's' mag and aluminum polish on the arms and they cleaned up like new. 3) Yes, the bed is going to get a spray in liner which may upset some of you and I was on the fence about it myself for awhile. However, I plan on using this truck not showing it. I may at least try to get a color match so it won't be so obvious. I'm putting that off til the last thing, probably after the holidays.

Thanks... the mirrors look great! I've been trying to find those "T" bolts to no avail... unfortunately, mine aren't good enough to re-use. They're pretty rusty.

I don't have any problems with bedliner, though I do think a color-matched spray-in liner would do more justice to your work than black.

Seems to me plain bolts worked in place of the T-bolts.

Been a while.

Hey Supermike

It's real easy to make yer own replacement "T" bolts.
Just get a pair of the correct size replacement bolts and grind the sides off.
Then you can thin the top with the grinder as well.
It doesn't take very long...
You could also cut the sides of the bolt head off with a hack saw... that might even be faster...

Sounds easy... for you. I don't have a grinder. lol! My dad might have one, but I'd likely grind off the tips of my fingers trying that one. :)

Thanks for the idea, though... may be the route I eventually have to go.

Back to the topic at hand, though... I'm really amazed how much has been done on this truck in such a short amount of time.

Here it is... minus the drip molding and spotlight. I should be able to get those on this weekend.
