Re: 68 f100 restoration.
I have not been able to get a lot done in the past week, but I did make some progress. I have been working on the heater. I tore it apart and cleaned everything. Now I just have to wait for it to stop snowing again to paint it!
This is before I tore it apart. I even found an original stamping on the fiberglass heater box. Here are parts cleaned and ready for paint!

Re: 68 f100 restoration.
Well, it is still cold outside here, but I still painted the heater parts. I just sprayed them in the garage, and then hung them up in the basement to dry. I used Rust-Oleum Gloss black, and for some reason it was really runny, but hopefully it will be okay.

Looks good. I think the rust-o-leum paint takes to long to dry/cure. That's what i used until i switched to VHT which i like a lot more.Fordkid68 wrote:Well, it is still cold outside here, but I still painted the heater parts. Thanks for the tip! I have never heard of VHT, but I will definitely look into it.jimmy828 wrote: Looks good. I think the rust-o-leum paint takes to long to dry/cure. That's what i used until i switched to VHT which i like a lot more.

Re: 68 f100 restoration.
Well, after a few days of working on it, the heater is finally assembled! I wasn't happy with the paint finish on the fiberglass box, so I sanded it down and repainted it. Then I assembled it with a seal kit from LMC, and a core from Rock Auto.
Now on to bigger and better things! You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks for this post and the updates. I'm finally getting back to a 67, my first vehicle, and I'm looking for inspiration. I got it back in 1986 and it has sat and been pretty bad, but its making headway now.

Well done young lad!!
Tip: use SEM vinyl/plastic dye for plastic stuff (like your fibreglass heater box), and you’ll be surprised how nice that stuff turns out. I like the satin black...

I have been stripping more paint off the firewall, and found more rust.
Got it cut out. Patch lined up.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: 68 f100 restoration.
Looking good!
For your butt welds, try leaving a gap about the thickness of your metal. You should get a bit cleaner, tighter weld.
Although it looks like you’re doing a fine job as is!
