Alright then! Now, see if you can find the connector. The NSS has a built in harness with a 4 prong plug. You're looking for the mating harness plug with 3 female and 1 male connections to match up to the one in the photo below. Since you're able to start the truck now, the PO may have hard wired it to bypass the circuit. If you want to replace it back to original, you'll need the switch and the actuator pin.
Switch: http://dennis-carpenter.com/neutral-saf ... Z-7A247-A/
Selector: http://dennis-carpenter.com/trans-contr ... Z-7B097-B/
The switch mounts similar to the 2nd photo, the selector like the last photo.

The selector just clips into slots in the shift tube through that opening you found. You can see one of the slots in this photo. There's also a hole between the 2 slots, and a little forward of center, that a tab in the selector clicks into. The mounting holes in the switch bracket are slotted to allow for some adjustment.

If your transmission has been swapped with a newer model transmission, I suppose it's possible it has the NSS down on the transmission?

Awesome sir thanks. I will check the trans. The truck will shift without my foot on the brake. Is that correct?

Yeah, that's never been a thing on our trucks. However, with a functioning NSS, it shouldn't start in gear, only in park or neutral. Will she start in gear?

Ok. I will check. So if you remove the NSS you lose the back up lights? Or is there a way to get them working.sargentrs wrote:Yeah, that's never been a thing on our trucks. However, with a functioning NSS, it shouldn't start in gear, only in park or neutral. Will she start in gear?

What you lose is the switch that operates them. You may be able to add the kind that attaches at the transmission shift linkage but that would depend on whether your transmission has the appropriate attachment points like on the Mustangs. https://goo.gl/images/2k7aXd
