I haven't been checking this forum for awhile, somehow i missed this whole project... this truck is awesome.
I've been looking for a set of those wheels on-an-off for awhile... they are hands down the coolest 5x5.5 wheels ever offered factory. Perfect look for these old trucks.
Check the forum out over at fordsix.com, if you haven't already, its a good resource for tuning that motor... not a whole lot of support out there elsewhere. Lots of folks have the low-midrange stumbling issue with that 390 holley. Given the clean/painted timing cover, it might have a swapped cam too.

Re: 1972 Styleside SWB Parts Hauler
Not much new to post, just wanted to report back that I have been driving the wheels off the little pickup and finally have the 500cfm Edelbrock running like i hoped it would.
I never did get they 390cfm holley to run right, I am sure I said this in the past but it always had a hesitation just as the throttle was cracked open, and it made cruising impossible. this 500cfm edelbrock is smooth through the whole pedal travel. It probably sucks up more fuel but im not driving this truck for economy...
Heres a photo of how she sits.
Next on the list will be to get a replacement "stock appearing" radio and a couple speakers in, right now the radio in the truck has a horrible popping through the speakers. Overall im very happy with the little truck.
