Have you ever thought about swapping the steering over to power steering ? just asking because now would be the perfect time to do if you wanted to.

the cab underside was ground down with a angle grinder and MANY MANY brush wheels the cleaned, rustblasted and rolled 2 coats of kbs rust seal, then 2 coatings of rubberized undercoating was applied....let dry one week and this baby is ready to go back on!
now i am going to finish cleaning up the rust behind the fender area, clean and coat the floorboards, and inner headliner area, and apply sound mat everywhere!
easy now....

fast update (been on the road picking up parts all day) had a long drive tosantaquin but pickedup new frontand rear bumpers forthe 68 today, the guy wanted 200 for the front i talked him down to 100.00 the front was a nos he bought from a dealership for 400.00 and the rear was new i picked up both never installed for 200.00.
no other news, time to work on the truck is hit and miss as we are getting ready for a new baby (due july 17) and i have been taking on more of the house chores, as well as starting to finish the basement so we can make room for the new arrivalYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: 68 monster in utah
when i installed the engine, ionly put in the outside header bolts (4 per header) today i went to put the rest in and found out that i tapped out two holes too small. i re drilled and tapped one to the right size, but the other one i cant get with a regular drill, i will have to get my dad's 90 tomorrow. my wife was really sick so i only had about an hour to work on her today, i have been doing a lot of rim andtire searching, i am looking for a newer style rim that might update the rig but still look like it belongs, and suggestions? also i am toying with the idea of spraying it charcoal. i think it will look better with the black brush guard and nerf bars.

Re: 68 monster in utah
been a long year, my Dad was killed on feb 1st, had a new little girl july 7th, hours cutback at work so lots of time but no money , pu our back yard in, motorcycle rallys and charity rides, and just a lot of depressing days dealing with lawyers and such.anyways i have been working on the truck, slowly btu she is starting to look like a truck again!!!! the bed should be coated with rust seal and then a nice coating of rubberized undercoating,i know it may sound like overkill but i want this to last for a long time in this utah weather.

Sorry to hear about the pain you and your family have endured this year. It's good to see that you've made progress with your truck. Keep up the good work.

Re: 68 monster in utah
finally i was able to work on the truck today, its been a looooong time, i had a ton of other projects sitting in my garage half done that needed my attention, now they are out of the way, i can start hitting it hard again!!!! i started on welding up the bed seams i want this truck to be smoooooth, i cleaned out the grooves with an angle grinder, then used a small propane torch to heat up any seam sealer that may have been left in there, scraped it all out with a thin screwdriver, blew everything out with compressed air, and then ran a bead down the seam in 1 inch increments about two feet apart, i countinued doing this until it was all filled in. i then used a 3 inch coarse twist lock fiber pads on a 90 degree air grinder to grind it all flat. i will go backand fill in any large low spots. when i was cleaning up the trim holes i ran into some bondo right on the bump, it will have to be pulled out with a slide hammer the best i can or i my cut it out and use a peice from a donor front fender that i have lying around, i dont want body filler on this truck as much as possible!!!!! that is the reason for the body swap in the first place. if you decided to weld up your body deams make sure you use the torch and burn out all the old body filler you can. i could tell where there was a little peice when i was welding it wouldnt let me get a very good bead. now for the fun part hand saning, top filling the little warpage i ended up with and then to the next side of the bed, i will also be welding ut the rest of the trim holes, the roof seam, the hood seam, and i am playing of the idea of shaving the drip rail. pics to come soon.

Re: 68 monster in utah
ok so i know it has been a long time, but its back to work on the truck, i am currently trying to get the wiring completed, so i can crank the motor. the body was a 2wd automatic, i am converting to a manual transmission, I have the manual steering column, and the manuals pedels, (for the clutch) i have hooked up the wires but when i move the key to the acc postition the modual (i cnat remember what ist is called) that is mounted on the radiator support starts buzzing, then when i move it to starting position nothing, the modual just keeps buzzing, how do i bypass the nutural safety switch?

Re: 68 monster in utah
4x4s don't have a neutral safety switch, A jumper wire was used from the factory. its a 3-4" wire with 2 spade ends on it.
