Re: transmission removal
Got the trans out!
There are no rivets, and no more bolt holes, not from what I can see. I still only find the 3 per side. For now, the trans is in the bed of the truck, and I'm waiting for some bolt loosener to do it's magic. them suv=ckers are on there like superman in a telephone booth!

Re: transmission removal
Driver side gets knocked forward, right side gets knocked rearward. 8 bolts total are "supposed" to be there, like 70_F100 said, two on either topside and two on either bottom corner. At least the PO didn't charge you the labor for his disassembly help
If you have a welder and some fab skills, you can cut the crossmember in half and fab a bracket to bolt it back together. I had exhaust clearance issues and had to chop mine in half, pics here: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &start=135

Re: transmission removal
I imagin it's going to be twice as much fun putting it all back together. Glad I didn't cut anyhting out. I actually just angled it by hand as much as I could, and smacked the hell out of the passanger side till it popped out. Just keppt making sure the driverside wasn't prssing into the brake lines, like bending them or anyhting, and just kept at it. Popped it out and lifted that sucker into the bed.
A benefit to the area I live is that spare 2x4's and random "junk" is always availabe, if your willing to walk the 20 or so feet along the railroad tracks. Running right next to my apt. comples is the tracks, and while all day long the trians go whizzin by, you can always expect to find some spare hoses or dicarded, well, just about anything! there's been lawn mowers of all types, general tools, car parts, p[lenty of tires, and loads and loads of stuff along those tracks. If you get to it quick enough, sometimes you can get stuff that's still somewhat good.
Anywho, just waiting for that bolt loosener to work.

Re: transmission removal
How about posting a picture of that crossmember, since you've already got it out.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: transmission removal
And here they are! I tried to place the bolts I took out into the smaller holes there, but they don't sit, which is why I've been saying no other holes. I could be wrong and there supposed to have smaller bolts? Top picture is the bottom holes, and the second is the top holes.
And check this! A silver torque converter. The one off the spare trans is blue, but this one is silver?

Re: transmission removal
Blue converter is rebuilt. The crossmember bolts should be 7/16-14

Re: transmission removal
that is a special number 48 converter. only converters marked with the 48 are special 48 converters.

Re: transmission removal
Yep, there should have been 8 bolts in that crossmember. Two on each side at the bottom, going through the radius arm brackets, and two at the top, going through the frame.
Like BobbyFord said, 7/16-14.

Re: transmission removal
[sarcastic blank stare at fordman] Really? that's it? Lol, com'on man!
And got the trans apart. thought I'd show ya a couple things. everything looks pretty much ok. there was a bit of string? int eh trans as I pulled it apart. Couldn't get a pic cause my hands were greasy, but it looked like about 12 inches or so of string. Maybe a bit less.
Anywho here's the pics. Theres a couple of the little gears thingies which I gotta get open to replance them. then I ahve the other gears pieces that look like they've ground away at the top part of it. For refrence, I took a pic of the one next to it. It;'s the only one like that.

Re: transmission removal
those are your clutch packs and the planetary gear. it the clutches in the pack are ground off on one side that was your problem. if yo ucan get the packs apart and the piston under them out replace the o rings on the pistons and put the new clutches in that is the most part of rebuildign it. then comes the valve body work.
