Re: My 1972 F-100 Jan20 update
The wheel wells are from LMC (part number 49-8076, page 25 of online catalog) they come in one piece but the inside edge is spot welded so it looks like it would come separately.convincor wrote: Question on the new replacement wheel wells. Are the formed one piece? reason I ask is I have a older set that are made from two pieces, the top and the sides being a seperate piece. Where did you get yours??
Basically I just cut the existing wheel well at the point where it begins to curve down towards the bottom of the box. I then took the new wheel well and made the same cut on the outside edge rather than the inside edge. In total I only gained about 4 inches per side but that is all I wanted. Didn't want to go extreme and make it look "pro street" but I did need a little extra, even with the Lightning wheels I would get a slight tire rub on the inside of the tire. Hope this helps.

Thanks Robroy, the road that goes past my house is getting paved this spring, so I am thinking her gravel days are done.robroy wrote:Good evening DanTheMan71!
I admire you for being bold enough to paint the chassis that bright color! It looks truly extreme in an excellent way--it's a work of art. You'll have to take about a thousand quality photos of it before taking it out on its first drive on a bumpy gravel road!

Re: My 1972 F-100 Feb15 update
I don't really have any plans to protect it. The truck will only see paved roads and nice weather when it is done so I am sure it will last a long time just with the paint, I probably won't be jumping snow piles with it anymore (that is how I broke the cab mount )jveenker wrote:that is the prettiest frame i have ever seen! love the red! how are you going to protect it? unbeilievable job, such an awesome post to keep track of! i can't wait to see the finished product.
Used epoxy primer to keep the rust from coming back and all stainless bolts which should help it look good for a while.
I will also use stainless brake lines and fuel line.
Maybe I can be one of those guys with the mirrors on the ground at the shows.

Does that offer still stand and are those spring hanger straight bolt in or do holes need to be drilled? One more thing, anyone who wants my DJM leaf spring hanger/shackle kit for the rear make me an offer and pay shipping and they are yours!! I installed them but the truck hasn't been driven since so they are brand new.

Re: My 1972 F-100 Feb15 update
Checking out the active topics at work today and I look at this one and I think to myself "that looks familiar" and then I realize it was my build that hasn't been updated and hasn't changed since February
I haven't done much on the truck lately, been gathering a few more parts....starting to gather some shiny engine stuff. I had a rental property that my renter moved out of so we decided so sell it. That ate up some time in the spring doing repairs and making it worth buying. Then along came summer when we had our first child, a 9lb baby girl named Maria.
Here she is on her first night at home:
My current project that is chewing up time is a 32 X 40 shop. Hope to have it sheeted in tomorrow, and then get the gas and power lines dug in before freeze up. We have had frost at night 3 times already, winter is coming. Here is the shop as of today:
Once the services are buried and the shingles are on I will slowly finish it over the course of the winter. I plan to get back on the truck in October/November. I would like to have it painted by Christmas, and driveable by my birthday in April but time will tell. At least it will have a good place to sleep away our long winters now. Thanks for checking in and keeping me on my toes, updates coming soon....
