I like Mobile 1 for full synthetic fluids. I usually get the gear oil at Autozone. I think it is 80wt or 90wt or 80-120 or something like that. I know it when I see it.

The oil I used in the dually's rearend was 80w 90 gear oil. Just like molasis

Yes, itsmy72f100 is right. 80w 90.

Although I think mobil comes in a single weight. I'm not sure. Anyway, when I get a truck that I don't know the history on, I drain (pump out with hand pump) all the diff fluid (it is usually pretty nasty by that point) and put in fresh mobil 1. Then I drive it for a couple of months and then change it again. I've never had a bearing freeze up on me and I don't want to ever try that. From what I hear it isn't any fun.

Overkill? Maybe. I'm a mechanical engineer that designs tools for use in space. Overkill is my job.

ok the truck is home again and running pretty good still leaks a bit of oil but ill fix that this fall.

Just kinda puttering around past couple days and thought id do a update since i hadnt since late april

sorry some of these pics suck
Ok to start i finally put on the ranger emblems i got a while back

Image

i also got a license plate light added since i figured it might be better that way

Image

I also thought it be a good idea to protect the near perfect seat..dont mind the mess i am still installing after market gauges and havent got to far with it

Image

A VERY big thanks to Jamie for the bezel looks great and worth every pennyImage

ok now part of the problem with this truck running rough was i was running on the Original cap and spark plug wires..(i can get a pic of them if some one wants...but here is the new ones

Image

And the points were pretty much shot..they were pitted bad..here is some pics not the best quality my camera cant get that close.

the dark spot on one side is accually a hole going through for those that didnt know that

Image

a spot on this side was accually burnt around it enough that it was throwing of the gap
Image

After i changed all this and a little fine tuning it runs so much better that its unreal

i took the tire mount that was on the front of the truck when i first got it and modified it to fit inside the bed of the truck to mount a tire there
Image

so here she sets outside since the garage is a mess right now
these pics are a litle older a day before i put the ranger emblems on

nope but if you catch it early it is ok.

Had my first ford truck, the old 360/c6 72 ranger xlt. bought it put steering and brakes back together on it brakes go out after a wheel cylinder broke. following me home dad spots the right rear wobbling and moving in and out.

checked it the next morning i was about to thjrow an axle away.

did both sides and both fronts to be safe.

that is a could idea a repainting of the bumper white and the tires white would be good for it and taking some polish and maybe a bit of steel wool to clean it up would be the thing that truck needs to make it look really good...that i getting the rust spots patched :o

Looks great man you've definately made some headway. The 1400psi will sure get it. Your trans is that a cruise o matic or fmx? that dipstick in the pan got me thinkin should be a cruise o i think??? Oh and in the rear end 80-90 is great however i like running lucas oil stabilizer in it to help it out some.

yeah cruse o matic the people that sent the gasket swore they know that it is a fmx but no matter how much i tell them the gasket was different they wont listen....but to get at the dipstick from the engine compartment is hard since its back behind the engine....i still havent got around to checking or changing the rear end fluid...but i think it would be one of the next things on my list.

does the tube bolt to the panon yours on the side? if so it might just be a c4 I think they also called it a cruise -o-matic.
