Awesome job your doing on your truck !!! I've read through the thread and you have giving me the inspiration to get back to work on mine. I do have one question , when rebuilding the steering box did you use any kind of instructions to reassemble it or just put it back like you took it apart ? Keep up the good work and have a great day ! Mike

Thanks, Mike! I appreciate it! For the steering box, I simply put it back together in the opposite direction There really aren't many parts to it but there was an exploded diagram and a few lines of instructions with the kit.SHU wrote:Awesome job your doing on your truck !!! Re: 1970 F100 Project
I finished up the rear brakes recently...all the hardware, shoes, wheel cylinders, drums, parking brake cables, etc. are brand new parts. What isn't new has been blasted, primed, and painted. I went ahead and threw on the Coys wheels to check the look. I like it!!!
I also started on the hard lines, fabbed and relocated the tab for the brake hose, and mounted the fuel pump so I can run the fuel lines as well.

Re: 1970 F100 Project
I got the carpet and firewall insulation/cover installed for good and also mounted the column for good this time!!! I added a new gas pedal and brake pedal pad too.
I'm getting ready to start the wiring too so I fabbed up a fuse panel bracket. It will bolt in the same holes as the original fuse panel but it being bigger and heavier, I integrated a brace that will bolt to the dashboard bracing that is behind the gauge cluster for some added strength and support. It will face down and slightly tilted toward the backside of the dash so it will be easy to access. My son is ready to help and can't wait to drive it!!!

Lookin very nice. I'm sure your son will cherish that pic when he is older. Two questions maybe you said before sorry if you did. Where did you get the firewall insulation pad, and does the rear pumpkin hit the bed floor at full compression? Just killing time while garage warms up is a balmy 32* in there right now but beats -7*

I lucked out and the original ducting has probably been replaced within the last 10 years or so. I just washed it with some soapy water and let it dry. Then I sprayed it with a little fabric/vinyl dye (same stuff on the dash pad).sargentrs wrote:Looking good, Patrick! Is that new defrost ductwork I see under there too?
This is a Rebel kit made in the USA. I have a Painless in my '56 and an EZ kit in my '69...they all install about the same.67mann wrote: always pictured you as older is that an EZ wire kit ....doesn't look like my Ron Francis kit....did you fab the bracket or it come with kit
I fabbed the bracket from 1/8" aluminum plate. I made it to bolt into the same holes as the factory fuse panel but since this panel is bigger and heavier, I added a forward brace that will bolt to the brace behind the gauge cluster for some added support. I didn't want to interfere with the headlight and ignition switches so I couldn't have it bolt to the dash.
Thanks Jimmy! As far as my little man driving this one, I'm not so sure...I sort of had my '69 in mind for him. I also have a '56 that I've owned since I was 15 (42 now). I'd love for the '69 to be a father/son project someday and we can drive them to shows together.jimmy828 wrote:We know who's going to be driving that truck later in years! Thanks! I'm sure he will and I hope that he's going to be helping (for real) in a few more years and we can do this stuff together.48prerunner wrote:Lookin very nice. I got the firewall cover from LMC if I remember correctly (have been stockpiling parts for a year!). I'm convinced that there's only one or perhaps a couple of companies that make them and distribute them to dealers like LMC, NPD, Dennis Carpenter, etc.
I'm fairly certain that the axle won't hit anything...there are many trucks out there with this exact setup and I've never heard of any clearance issues. It's only about 1-2 inches lower than my '69 which has flipped hangers and I never had a problem with it.

The panel is mounted and it's sturdy! I can start terminating everything in the dash after I refurbish the heater and its controls and clean up the wiper assembly first.
