Ranchero50 wrote:No, you use a razor blade and cut off the excess. Seat both pieces fully using screwdriver handle and cut them off @ 1/16" above flush (long). Then you rotate them in the groove, I think you want 1/4" sticking out on one side and 1/4" sticking in on the other so the break in the seal doesn't line up with the block to cap separation line. Should be a ton of stuff on Google describing it better.
thanks Ranch, the problem is the steel rod in the center.

Rear sump oil pan? 4x4?

Also note by the amount of corrosion on the head gasket surface that I bet this engine was in a saltwater boat.

Was it already in the truck like that? Maybe small blocks are different but an FE won’t go in a 2wd truck with a rear sump pan...

That's because the 5.0 engines don't have the boss for the clutch pivot point.

I would not run those headers. They are pretty much stock garbage parts and don't flow very well. You should be able to find a pair of used 1 5/8" BBK's for little to nothing. Then just grind the ball flange a little for clearance.

Ranch,

Thanks buddy. I am not looking for more HP. I got these for a cheap price. I am finishing them with POR15 Header paint. I wanted to get rid of the rusty manifolds.

Valve Adjustment?

I read you just run the nut down until tight? Is there a torque setting?

Is there no lash adjustment?

Thanks everyone

If the studs have positive stop shoulders then yes, lock them down. If the rocker fulcrum will slide down over the shoulder then you need to adjust the lash.

I don't like the rotate the pushrod method because I've seen the lifter plunger lower while doing it. I shake the pushrod axially while tightening the nut. Once the pushrod doesn't move axially (inline with the shaft) then add 1/2-3/4 turn of preload on the lifter plunger.
