Ive been really busy lately but I try to work on the truck as much as possible.
I've still been cutting out the old front suspension to get ready for the c.v. swap.
Mostly everything is out now and I'm almost ready to start test fitting it. You just gotta try to do a little bit every day!

I bought a new carb, so hopefully soon I can get the engine running and break it in!
I got an Edelbrock AVS2 650cfm carb with electric choke. I decided to go with a carb for now, but will eventually upgrade to EFI. Also got more stuff cut out of the way. Both spring perches are off and I just have to cut the leftover crossmember pieces out of the frame. I will try to start test fitting the new K-member soon!

Tonight I finally got the last of the crossmember out!
It took a while but I cut out the remnants of the crossmember that was inside the frame rail. Since I don't have a plasma cutter it took a lot of Sawzall and grinder work. And I just recently got a torch set right after the major parts were already done! And being inexperienced I didn't want to use it on the inside of the frame and accidentally cut the wrong part.
Now I can finally start mocking up the c.v. k-member, and start measuring!

I got the c.v. suspension under the frame!
I just have to center to front to back. I'm going to put the front end together to make sure the centerline is in the right spot, make sure its square, then I can start welding.

After spending about three days meausuring everything, I found out exactly where it needed to be to match the factory wheelbase. The centerline is exactly halfway between the two holes on the botton of the frame that are about an inch apart. I drilled holes for the alignment pins, and got the suspension set in place. then after much more careful measuring i cut out the top of the frame and got the kit installed on the right side, and it ligns up perfectly! Now I just have to do the same on the other side.
I Already have new parts to rebuild the suspension, I got new Upper A-arms, ball joints, sway bar links, and tie rod ends.

I know I haven't posted any updates in a while, but aside from being extremely busy the last few weeks, I have been able to get some work done.
I drilled holes in the frame for the c.v. bolts, but the holes in the swap kit were not lining up. The flange thats folded down off the top of the insert stuck out to far, and wouln't let the box sit against the frame rail. Which also made huge gaps along the vertical edges on the inside.
So I cut the lip to make it shorter, so it would actually sit on top of the frame and make everything line up flush. I also had to trim the bottom edge of the insert to make it sit against the inside of the frame rail, because it was to big and pushing the insert out.
So keep in mind that the weld in kit from ebay, does not always line up, and does require some modification.
Then I made some tabs to weld on the sides of the control arm mounts so that it can bolt on with four bolts instead of just three.
After all that was done I sprayed everything with weld through primer, set the suspension in place, made sure it was square, and bolted it in so I could tack the boxes in place.
Then it took me two days just to tack weld it, because I ran out of wire after doing one side then had to go get more the next day. But after all that, the end of the suspension swap is near!

Lately I've been welding all the holes in the side of the frame, to make it look smoother.
And also made 1/8 in. Plates to box in the frame all the way back to the cab mounts, and also about 7in. In front of the cv swap box.
Another reason I haven't gotten a lot done is my brother just bought a 56 jeep cj5, and I've been helping him work on it.

I got the crown vic mounting boxes completely welded in place with the help of my grandpa and the use of his arc welder.
Everything on the front end is now welded and I also boxed in the frame all the way back to the cab mounts, and a little ways in front.
I'm currently working on welding the holes in the side of the frame by the boxes, although no one will ever see them because it will be behind the coilovers. it just makes it look a little cleaner.
I also tore apart the rear suspension, disassembled the leaf springs and stripped the paint off them.
Then I completely tore apart the rear axle to get ready for rebuilding.
I already have a new center section I will be using that has 3:64 gears and a trak-lok. Which will be much better than the stock 3:25 open diff that was in it.
Although the new center section is 31 spline and the old one is a 28 spline. So now I will have to be getting new axles.
It turns out its hard to find new axles with a 5x5.5 bolt pattern, so I may take this as an opportunity to switch to 5x4.5 to make it the same as the front.
Even though I will already have to get different offset wheels in the front and back. 5x4.5 is much easier to find wheels for.
I am also thinking of converting to disc brakes with the new bolt pattern.
By the time I get axles, brakes, and I already got the center section, it will end up costing a lot more than I had anticipated for the rear end.
But I think in the end it'll be worth it to upgrade it!
