Re: Attempting Intake Manifold removal/install 1971 400
Good to know Fraser. I'm going to try and find casting dates for the block, manifold and heads. Gotta nail down what I have here exactly. Can't seem to find the parts I need, likely because I've been calling it a 1971 400. This is because I have been using the block casting CODE...not DATE. Someone had pointed this out to me on another forum and it makes sense

Quick update:
Used new valley pan, rubber S gaskets and ultra black permatex rtv. Followed mf instructions. Squeaky cleaned all manifold surfaces and replaced the manifold. Since the engine sits so far aft in the engine bay ( can't even get the valve covers off @#$!), had to "swing " the manifold in with overhead winch. I believe I hit the oil sending unit in doing so. After reassembling water neck, dizzy, carb etc I got the engine fired up. Not great but running. But noticed after a while oil pooling beside the sending unit on yhe block. So I figured I gave it a good knock. Question is, can I eliminate the sending unit, cause I've already installed after market gauges. Can I remove the original sending unit and plug the hole. Might be difficult cause there's a vacuum tree from the manifold sitting up against it. Man, what a pain. I'll ask the question in a properly titled post...
