New To Me 1969 Ranger Long Bed - Advice needed!

Sarge and 390FE, thank you once again for your input. I will definitely check those out and I think I will be staying with the 2100.

Sarge - I think you've inadvertently persuaded me to take a step back to look at my plans again, not to hack up my truck with the CV install. I think that I can get the look I want with dream beams and resolve what's going on with the front end with a little bit of time and systematic replacement of bushings. The one aspect I'm having a hard time with, however, are the parts to convert to disc. I've been reading up on using 73-79 front end parts which is cool in principal, but they seem to be made out of rare metal unobtainium and not to be had anywhere. And putting in one of those Mustang II kits on Ebay for all the money in the world is not an option with so much other stuff needing to be done. So, not an engine question, but: are there any other options for disc brakes? But since I'm going the beam route, I can yank the engine out this weekend, get it clean, get the carb boxed for rebuilding (or core) and order gaskets for whatever ails it.

Here is a thread that has a site in it for disc brake kits, and another site that has disc brake conversion kits for your 1969 F100, I didn't look at the prices. Where in the country are you located? We get Dentside trucks (1973-79) pretty often in our junkyards here in Colorado. The cheapest route is to get the parts you need from a Dentside. Nothing in my locals here in South Fla, that's for sure. I just did a search though and there are 1 or 2 1978 F100's about 180 miles away - but that's a long way to drive for something that could be all gnarled up or loose as a goose. Familiarize me with Dentside and Bumpsides, please...

"Bump Side" is a nickname for 1967 to 1972 Ford trucks as there is a bump or convex part of the body where the side trim goes. "Dent Side" is a nickname for 1973 to 1979 Ford trucks as there is a dent or concave part of the body where the trim goes. I'll look and see if I can find the Fordification picture that shows the difference.

Well: it's been an expensive night. Brake kit and associated parts from Rock Auto ordered. I'll begin to pull the motor tomorrow, although it would be great to know which Remflex gasket to order ahead of time, as I see that Summit carries 2 types.
