I was pissed i couldnt keep my factory steering columb but i figured i wouldnt be able too.. A little blurry but here is the 82 ford steering column.. had to go this route because the slip joint in the shaft was perfect!

Image

I made a 'custom' bracket out of the old gas tank strap.. doubled it for strength

Image

Workin with it......

Image

What a PITA but I got it:D

Image

Since I'm done with it ill say it almost went together too easy..

Image

Without help you find a way to get a second hand lol..

Image

A little motivation from hardees...

Image

Out with the old, in with the new, well, 'newer'

Image

Went in like its supposed to be there

When you do the lift you plan you could move the bed forward a little bit that would help without really making the wheels/tires look out of place in the fenders. I played with the wheelbase on my truck when I did the suspension installs. Longer rides better so I stretched it just a little at each end. Of course the other obvious option is to cut the frame down or just leave it alone. Been there on that trying to measure alone. Totally understand.

might fool the eye if you just moved the stake pocket forward, great project i wanted to do this to my 80 but couldnt find a rust free 66 or older and when scrap price is up aound here you cant touch anthing for less than 5-6 hundred we got $880 for a junk chevy van across the scales.

Cool project I know how fun it is putting those beds on by yourself. Thats why i made a bed lift now.

Thanks for the tip! I fuss about our little rust issues here in alabama until I get on the net and see what alot if folks are dealing with! Rotted off cab mounts and frames breaking in half.. i do have pitty for those states.. :o 880$!! Man that is alot of money.. Max we see here when high are12$ per 100lbs.. that's why I buy so much out of the scrap yard.. I scored a 51 (chevy :shh: ) wrecker a ih tractor and a 48 john Deere tractor and literally, countless perfect motors.. I paid 30$ for the 302 that's going in this truck

Those JDs are pretty simple as long as the engine is semi sold you can make it run. Look at re working it to a 12v system before you start buying parts. I wish i had realized you could do that before the last time i went through the ignition system. There is a pretty good forum http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... c2b6445bcf, its about crawlers but the engine will be the same as the MC.

Anyway, good luck

Okay, today's project is gonna be getting the brake pedal where it needs to be.. in the picture its obviously too high but the fix is easy. I ran into this putting boosted brakes in my dads 79 and had good luck with it.. ill show how I accomplish this shortly..
