Re: C6 transmission diagnosis
it was just a thought i had. i guess it isnt a front plate it is the stator support. that the pump rides against. it could be something as simple as one of the metal rings on the stator is broken too. it is one of those things i am not real good at guessing at. taking it apart may find the problem right away.

As a side note, if you can't find the info you need on this website, here is a forum dedicated to Ford transmissions of this era:

I'm in the denver area. I am planning to pull the tranny this weekend and see what I can see that may be causing this. I will post some pictures and get some advice.

Wow, pulled the pan and drained the fluid. Fluid didn,t look bad, but look at the filter and pan. This is 1 mile after a flush and refill. I have to believe that all of this came from the tranny cooler because that was the only part of the system that didn't I didn't flush. I had my son do it with compress air while I was out buying parts. I read on one thread how when someone blew out the tranny oil cooler after a long sit, and a black pellet and rusty oil came out.
What do you guys make of this and could this be the root of my tranny problems, meaning another full flush and refill instead of pulling the tranny?
Or do you think it is even more important to pull the tranny to make sure everything is cleaned. Again, the goal is to just get her running so I can run around locally and use her as a pick-up, not restore her.
Let me know.

Ok, as much as I didn't want to, out she came. Did a long hard debate about flushing the cooler and lines, draining everything, putting it back together and seeing if she could limp along for a little while, but in the end, you smart people convinced me to do it right. Haven't had time to take anything apart (have to color eggs). I will post some pics once I'm further in. I'll make some calls on Monday and see what I can get a bench rebuild done for, and compare it to doing it with my son and make some decisions.
Happy Easter everyone and thanks again for the help.
