I will check on getting one tomorrow. I guess I will get one of those aftermarket hot coils since the factory piece will probably be around the same price.

The oil in the coil is used to cool it, mostly. When the oil leaks out, the coil overheats and you get all kinds of hard to diagnose problems. Replace the coil.
The coil output needs to be matched to the type of distributor and ignition you have. If you still have points use an OEM grade coil. I have read to many reports about scientific experiments that claimed they could not get better performance by using hotter coils. What they did find a lot of, was damaged ignitions from using the wrong coils, even though the box claimed to be suitable.
Modern engines have been leaned out so much that they need a hotter spark to ignite the lean fuel/air mixture. We don't have that issue. We are still using carburettors and rich fuel/air mixtures.
If you do upgrade into a pointless ignition, then you need a matching coil. Again you need to be careful, the pointless units are more sensitive to coil load than points.

In my experience a vibration due to a misfire has a completely different feel to it than an out of balance vibration. IMHO A "real good mechanic" should be able to tell the difference real quick.
Plus you should be able to tell by listening to the exhaust if it is missing bad enough to cause a vibration. Does the truck have dual exhaust?

Engine does not sound like it is missing at all at idle. My exhaust is 2.5 y pipe at the front going to full 3" ats diesel exhaust after the transmission cross member.

Stand by the exhaust while someone else revs the engine up to the rpm where the vibration is occuring. You might even hold a piece of cardboard against the tailpipe, a misfire will normally make it flutter against the pipe.gregamorton wrote:Engine does not sound like it is missing at all at idle. I changed out the coil and yet again seems to run just a tad bit better but the vibration is still there upon acceleration. I am thinking that it has to be in the flywheel or the clutch setup now. I will take it to the mechanic to do this so we can put it up on the lift but will have to wait a few weeks for this.
