Yeah, I've been watching ebay and I see complete used setups goin in the $500 range. I wouldn't pay over a thousand dollars for a new one, thats for sure! I just like the idea of puttin fuel injection on my old truck and having no choke to worry about and maybe getting a little better mileage. Do you think I'd make the same kind of power compared to, lets say a 600 Holley? I know the unit is 670 cfm, but I'm curious as to how it runs out.averagef250 wrote:Projection works pretty darn well and it's easy to tune. It's not modern injection though. TBI is a smarter version of a carb. If you can find the stuff used for few hundred go for it, but I wouldn't shell out more than a new carb price for projection that doesn't get you much more than a slight cold start and driveability advantage.

Thanks for the input! BTW you oughta head over to "The Welcome Mat" and introduce yourself. I'm sure some of the guys would like to ask you about all your projects.mikeconner1 wrote:Just a short word on the Edelbrock versus stock 4bbl. For one, just the weight difference is significant, and the older I get, the more I appreciate aluminum. For two, the Performer series 600 CFM carb & intake are the best combo for the money you can buy, at about $450 for the pair. The Carter-style carb is far superior to anything Ford ever put on these trucks, and the intake is designed specifically for that carb. Just making that change alone will amaze you as to how much better it will run. If you go with the whole package of carb, intake, cam, & lifters you will not be disappointed. Very good stuff, designed specifically to work together, and not out of this world in price. Just my two cents from personal experience. I've done this upgrade on both small & big block engines, with excellent results. Can't beat them Edelbrock carbs.

Re: Who has done hp mods to their 360?
I would like to ask acouple ?? on this topic. Will the XE cams put alot of stress on timing chain because of rapid lift? I know that everyone likes the 901 cam but that would mean changing springs and I was going to save that money for a future 390 build. I think the xe252 has exh lift of .493 is this cam worth the effort? Has any one tried thiner head gaskets or decked block to bring static comp. up to 9+/1? Getting 1hp per cu in shouldn't be hard or that exspensive being that they pull the same hp out of the same heads in a mild 390-428. The rod ratio, bore vs. stroke is good recipe for torque Its the lack of comp and the restricted exh that bring it down. I know they use the xe cam to bring the dynamic comp up but I had a 66 galaxie w/ a mild cam in a stock bottom end 352 4V and cast shortys that would lite the tires and run 100+ all day long.

I ran a 390 with the Crane 901 and a cloyes true roller for about 140K miles. Had it apart at the end, timing chain was tight as the day I installed it (the whole engine nearly looked like the day I put it together). I'd estimate that motor at 375 HP and 450 lb/ft. It was an animal to 4500 RPM.
