Progress...

1/2" end mill knocking the material down so it's easier to cut the bevel
Image

Bevel cut path... So exciting.
Image

1/4" end mill cutting the final contour for the pull lip.
Image

Finished doodads.
Image

I'm probably going to redo the first cut process to have both mill contour cycles in it so I don't have to worry about the edges matching as much. Gonna have to use a 3/8" or 1/2" end mill to do it with the greater depth though. Still should be in metal by the weekend.

More to come.

Wife managed to get the metal this afternoon (like pulling teeth that was). Should get it cut to length tomorrow and start cutting on it when I'm off Monday. More to come.

OK, been a bit lazy the last two days since it was soo stinking hot and humid out. From 50's to mid 80's in one day Miserable. I did get a '96 Seadoo STX and a '94 escort parted out. Finally this evening I fired up the mill and redid the first program to use a 1/2" end mill for the cuts. Learned some new stuff about offsetting the reference plane and everything worked out well. I ended up making a couple dozen test parts out of the wood so I can proof out the second fixture later this week.

Last night spent from 7:30pm til dang near 10pm playing with the second fixture. Parts are turning out really well in MDF. Just kept tuning it in til it looked better and better and got the mill time from 3:30 to 2:01 for two parts. So it looks like about 3 minutes per part machine time.

I also found out the local pipe house can get me the vibratory polishing compound. Ironically I found out online, never would have thought to call them locally.

This evening I hope to clean the machine out really good (wood dust breed bacteria in the coolant tanks really well) and maybe get some aluminum chips made.

I promise I will take pics. I have one of the pull mounted on a spare ash tray and brought it in to work for opinions, everyone positive so far.

Alrightythen, here's some pics of the brand spankin fresh out of the mill ash tray pull thingies. It truely is a shame my camera sucks sooo friggin' bad to do these parts justice...

Wood for the funny guys.
Image

More wood...
Image

Non polished aluminum... The mounting holes accepted the stock screws self tapping style. Went on really easilly.
Image

Same pic, different place... Still sucky pics.
Image

Polished one in the middle... If you hold your tongue just right you can tell the difference.
Image

Polished one mounted. Chips in the background are just a little bit of the mess the mill made cutting these out.
Image

The parts actually turned out better than I expected, a lot better. I think I only made eight or ten to play with the settings and I had it down after the second pair. It's funny, I've been thinking about making these for a good while and the doing turned out to be easier.

Now if I only had a truck to put these in...

How does $12 mailed sound? That way I can list them on the Bay for $14.99 with free shipping. The 'profit' is going towards the spool gun so I can start on the CD bezel next. That is going to be a huge project.

Same deal as the dome lamp bezels, reply to this thread, then reply to the PM once the parts are made.

PM's forthcoming.
