Re: re: Buckin' The Bow-Tie
I have to admit that even thought I'm not a die-hard Chevy guy, I've never been partial to OHV Ford motors, built many a Flathead, but...At heart I'm still a passionate traditional hot rodder(early Ford) having worked in many shops building them, asthetics are very important and most of the Ford motors were always ugly to me. I know that's a ridiculous reason to most sane people for me not to put a 351 etc into the truck, but I'm stubborn! Gonna hopefully be putting in a late-model Mod motor-probably a 4.6 DOHC and a stick in her. So the 360 and three-on-the-tree will be on its way out when I start putting in the front clip. The 360 runs and I can drive the truck but it'll clear your neighborhood of bugs after a couple of revs with all the oil it's burning, but it was sitting for twenty years. Bottom line is that the motor needs a new home soon.BigRedTruck wrote:what are you going to to with the 360?

So when is this issue gonna hit the stores? I'm really interested in the mod motors in one of these trucks.

I'm excited about the Mod motor too! Not quite sure when that'll hit the stands since I'm about to tear the truck apart, didn't want to start in on it 'till I had the time and space. After I get the chassis set up, the motor/trans will be next. EFI is new territory for me so I can wait to learn about how to make it work in the truck.
It's been a slow start on my end due to other obligations, but it's picking up steam now.

When does the Sept issue come out or is it already out? I want to subscribe to the mag but I surely don't want to miss the first article of this build.

Every time I go to the junkyard my father in-law he talks about pulling one for his '56 F100. I am interested in how it turns out also!! Maybe I will look into a subscription too.Buckinthebowtie wrote:I'm excited about the Mod motor too! Check it out! The September issue is on the news stands now. The article on my truck is basically an introductary feature that shows how the truck looks now and I outline my plans for the build. Gonna try and get a rendering done soon.Big D's 69 wrote:When does the Sept issue come out or is it already out? re: Buckin' The Bow-Tie
Hey, Buckin' The Bow-Tie, was it your mag that I saw a two tone green '71 Explorer in about a year or so ago? I'm thinkin' it was but I can't remember. Maybe not. I think it was a seasonal special issue from one of the truck mags. Anyway, the truck was more of a resto-rod. Had a 428 Cobra Jet in it. I saw it right after I got my '71 and it was the same colors as mine only flip-flopped. It got me psyched for my own project. Just wonderin'...

71 Long Bed, i think i remember the truck your talking about. It had 17's or 18's up front with 20's on the rear but look pretty much stock other than that, if i am thinking of the right one. I have the mag at home, will have to find it.
