Re: mY 1970 f100
I have been driving her aound a bit "as is" I even went and picked up a load of firewood. TIming and idle are ok but probably would do well to get both dwell meter and timing to get it finer tuned. Sometimes she idles just fine, other times, its a little low. What should the RPM's be at idle? 600?
Meanwhile I was pricing getting the bed soda blasted, top and bottom with line-x covering top and underneath, wheel wells, etc.. Will need to save a little to get that done so I decided to attack the sides of the bed and its imperfections. Along where the trim was, water gathered and created pitting and rust. Nothing too bad but definitiely need some TLC. Wire wheeled that out. Took rails off top and fixed a few dents, filled in the seemingly random extra holes (PO mst have drilled since this bed is from my donor truck). Then topped it all with a fresh coat of POR 15-silver. Will go back in there next weekend and use skim fill to level off the pitted areas. Unless someone has other ideas? Here is a shot of the one side I worked on today. WIll get after the other side later. Looks kinda goofy now but it is a work in progress. Hope to get pros to line body panels, fine tune my sad efforts at body work and professionally paint. THat will be a while since that will cost $$ Til then she will be a little rough around the edges.

Re: mY 1970 f100
have not done much to the truck other than drive it every once in a while, Ordered some more parts and installed the window anti-rattle kit and vent window seals. Had a bear of time installing new vent window seals, and in fact, put the originial back in the passeneger dooe since the LMC relacement just did not want to fit. It was a tad frustrating but the anti rattle kit and regular window seals were very easy to install. Also got a 302 sticker for the air cleaner to make the engine look a bit prettier. put insulation inside doors to cut down on noise and adjusted drivers side door, adjusting timing and idle (just can't seem to find that sweet spot) took for a ride and ots a lot quieter and doors sound more solid!
even went to a "cruise in" though my truck was definitely had the "before" look in a parking lot full of "afters" Maybe after some paint and some more $$$$ she will be readay to shine.....
tomorrow will replace the power steering hoses......

Re: mY 1970 f100
Been a while, money found other places to go and I have done little else to the truck other than drive it around on weekends. Runs great! Need to find money to finish cosmetics. GOt a new instrument bezel from DC and installed today. Really makes interior shine. Also got a new wiper arm (right hand side mount was cracked and leaked when we had heavy rain) but I will wait until some warmer weather to try and install that. Looks like it will be a bear getting up under dash and such.... anyway, hope all are well.... here are some before and after pics of the dash bezel. I put the old one up for sale in the parts forums if anyone is interested.

Re: mY 1970 f100
Wow.....It has really been a while. Looking back that was a fast and furious restortation, or partial restoration..... esentially ran out of extra money lying around. Truck is still fantastic, runs great and I take her to home depot and an occasional run around town. Still have not found money to get decent paint job and there seems to be a list of things still yet to complete, i.e. wiring the blower fan, radio. Proper dash pad, install power steering lines, windshiled wiper arms, proper carpeting, shiny bits, odds and ends that simply demand $$$$...... I am in no major rush. Hope to do a little at a time. Just thought I'd add post to hopefully get the motivation going again!

I feel your pain. Haven't touched mine in weeks due to cold, wet weather. Anxiously waiting for Spring so I can get back to it.

OK, time to get back at it. TOday trying to tackle the windshield wiper pivot arm replacement. I replaced gasket to stop leaking and cracked the soft metal So had new part sitting in garage for two years so figured time to take dash all apart and install.....midway thru, what a bear! Had to take wiper motor off and subsequently the drivers side arm, which will get new gasketing as well.....oh well..... then on to wiring the heater fan and maybe even the radio if time allows today....
we are back on course!

Great build and happy to see you're sticking with it! I've been preparing, sorting, and gathering to start my 'new' '70 here in a week or two (I hope!). I love watching everyone's projects...they provide great inspiration and motivation!

Well all things get put on hold and have been playing with a Miata - running to track events and such.... truck is headed to body shop to have panels and doors all properly aligned. I never could get it right! Then will take to get bed sandblasted and topped with some line-x..... replaced the fuel gauge sending unit nad now can tell how much gas is in the truck! Plan to use this periodically to tow the Miata to and from the track!!!

These trucks are a labor of love. Good luck and give us some pics of the bed once you get it blasted. Also can you provide the name of the place that is doing the blasting?

Re: mY 1970 f100
will do, bed will be after body panel alignments and after talking to the guy (he is top body guy at a local shop taking this job on the side at his home) might see if he can clean up last bits of body work on outside of bed and hood, slap a decent but cheap paint job on it. All depends on costs and resources. Will continue the build thread though.

Re: mY 1970 f100
OK, had the body panels aligned and it really improved the look of the truck! I have yet to tackle any additional projects with the truck, just driving it now and again. I did clean up bed a little and threw down some Rustoleum. Just a temporary polish on a project that would take more time and money than I can spare to invest in this truck right now. Someday, will get proper body work and paint job. Until then, I just enjoy having her around!
