Brake size change from '67 to '72?

Post by Kraig »

When I went to my twin brother's house to pick up my '72 LWB we adjusted the front wheel bearings and bled the front brakes. He said my front drums were alot wider than his '67s. Were different width drums available or could these be from a later model truck (F-150 maybe)? I only see one part number listed in catalogs for front shoes. Thanks.

F100 2WD ? If what I read is correct the 67 should have 11x2 fronts
and the 68/up should have 11x3

I thought I had this info around here somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can find it now. So I tried checking at O'Reilly's and Autozone but neither stocked any '67 brake parts. However, according to the NAPA website, the '67s used 11" x 1-3/4" rear and 11" x 2" front brake shoes compared to the 11-1/32" x 2-1/4" rear and 11" x 2" (or 2-1/4" or 3") front brake shoes of the '68-up.

I'll keep looking and see if I can't dig out the correct specs....not that these aren't, I'm just not sure.

Yeah '67 F100 brakes were smaller than the '68+ F100's. I think they were 11 x 2 fronts and 11x1-3/4 rears, they also used the dinky 6 3/4" booster, all the same as the earlier F100's. The '68+ F100's were 11-1/32 x 3 fronts and 11-1/32 x 2-1/4 rears and could be had with the bigger 9" booster. There's a lot of the earlier model parts in the '67.
