Went to $2.78 in San Angelo today. I have a friend who was trying to tell me how crazy I am to be buying a '72 Ford with a 360- I pointed out to him that I will be the sole owner, unlike him. He and the bank own his much-more-fuel-efficient 2006 F150, he pays $530 a month for six long years. That would buy a lot of gas.

Filled up today. $2.81 a gallon for 87 octane in Sanford, NC. Gonna be a rough summer. I commute to work an hour each way.. end up filling up every 2 days when I work. Luckily I work 12 hour shifts, so work 2 days, off 2days, etc... almost works out to if I was driving 5 days a week. Of course I dont drive my F100 to work. I drive my Jeep Wrangler, it gets 20-21 mpg.

My 61 falcon with a 3 speed and 200 six got 20 mpg in town. It was geared to low to drive on the freeway. (3.50 gears, 24" tall tires...) 2 years after I sold it they came out with swap kits to put T-5s behind them... I miss it.

It's $2.63 at the Safeway near home. I was down to about 1/4 tank (40 gal tank) on the way back from the PNW meet-n-greet about a month ago and gas was $2.19 and going up, I figured "why fill up now? it's getting expensive." DUH!

I remember when I was a petroleum transfer technician and I was almost embarrased for the person buying $1 worth of gas. But then there were the big spenders that would get $3 worth of gas. Funny thing was these guys always had a big roll of cash, but they'd come back a couple of times each day. My theory is since these guys were the drug dealing types, they always kept their gas tanks topped off in case they got chased by the cops!

Gas is up to $2.79/gal. Think it will go way higher. Last year it hit $3.03. As far as HOWDY69 is concerned, I had a 1978 F150 w/300 six and 3 speed and on the highway I could get 19 mpg any day. My all time best was 28 mpg. My 2003 Neon has gotten a best of 37 w/2.0. Wow! 35 years have made all the difference, NOT!

it's going to go WAY higher- like the old BTO song "ain't seen nothin' yet" and the really bad and sad fact is it affects everything that you do, use, eat, wear etc. etc. - i'm waiting for the complimentary vaseline- jd

My engine builder says my new engine should go 200,000 miles. The best mileage I get is 10 mpg. So the engine should burn 20,000 gallons during it's life. It will take me many years to drive that many miles so I figure the average price of gas during the life of the engine is $5/gallon.

20,000 x 5 = $100,000 of gas during the life of the engine.
