Not sure if I need to send back. Got a high tourque starter for the 71 360 engine. Thing is, this one comes with a little tab on the sol. Original starter does not have that. Can I still install this new starter or did I get the wrong one?
Thanks
New starter

Re: New starter
I think they just do that for ease of installation? I am sure that solenoid goes on so many different starters they give you the option of round terminal or spade. I have seen those where its just an adapter on the terminal and removing the nuts lets you slide it off. I don't think its "wrong", I think they just do it to give a guy the option depending how their vehicle is setup.

Re: New starter
Have to ask the question. Why use a high torque starter, unless you have an 11:1 or 12:1 compression engine.
If the 360 is the typical 7:1 to 8.5:1 range compression it would seem like overkill for the engine requirements. Typical OEM starters have been starting those 360 engines for 50 years. If you are having cranking problems, it will most likely be bad grounds, corroded terminals, a bad battery, way too much initial timing advance or parking the truck in freezing temps. Might want to see if you have any of these problems before resorting to a different type of starter.

Re: New starter
I know it might be overkill, but I got it now. Thanks folks, I’ll toss it in and see what happens
