DIY Oil Pump Primer

DIY Oil Pump Primer
I would like to make an oil pump primer. I don't have a spare/junk distributor laying around to modify. I can see that a 5/16, 1/4" drive socket with an extension fits very nicely in the block.
My question: does the distributor body need to be in place to allow proper oil flow to the engine like a Chevy? I don't see the need but want to make sure.

The distributor doesn't have to be in place if it's a small block not sure about anything else. You can rent one from AutoZone if it's a small block.

That's the first place I looked. All that was listed was a Chevy and it's not even available. Same with Oreilly, NAPA and Advance. I'll see what happens with the socket...

Yeah, the first time I tried it I thought I did! It was just the pump shaft sticking to the socket and falling back down in the pump.

Just buy a piece of 5/16" stainless hex stock and use your drill. McMaster-Carr sells a 2' piece for about $13.

You can spin it with a socket on an extension using a 1/4 drive adapter in dill, tape the socket to the extension.

SOLD-71 F-350 dually flatbed, 302 / .030 over V-8 with a "baby"C-6, B & M truckshifter, Dana70/4.11 ratio, intermittent wipers, tilt steering, full LED lighting on the flat bed, and no stereo yet (this way I can hear the rattles to diagnose)! SOLD!
Many Ford bumps / one 76' EB / and several dents through the years.
A lot of "oddball" Ford parts collected from working on them for 34 years now!
