Heater Hose Water Valve

Post by 69-er »

Here's another mystery on the 71 360 build. The truck has AC. I believe it is a dealer installed system. All I know so far is that it has a York compressor and the under dash ducting.

In the parts box there is a cable operated water valve installed on one of the heater hoses. I haven't been able to fully inspect the truck so I don't know if there is a cable going to it. Anybody know if this system would have this valve?

I almost certain you should have a cable that goes to it connecting it to the heating controls on the dash.

Top right diagram shows the valve in the heater hoses. Part number listing below that. http://www.fordification.com/partnos/ac ... tegral.htm

Thanks Randy! I found some pre-disassembly photos and that diagram is exactly how how the truck is configured. Looks like it's a fairly unmolested truck.

Now, is that valve's function to regulate the air temp or is to completely shut off the flow to provide max cooling? Without being able to personally check the function of the controls I can't tell from the pics you referred me to how the cables actuate with each function on the control face.

It controls the flow to the heater core..........alot simpler version of the dial with the blue and red color coded heater controls in newer cars.....the further you push the lever to the right the warmer it gets!

It's just a water shut off valve. No hot water to /through the heater core = no heat. Little bit of water = little bit of heat.

OK, back to this valve...

I found two valves, 74727 and 74828, at 4 Seasons that match the specs I need. However, I can't determine which one to use.

They are both described as pull to open although the 74827 isn't labeled as such. Only the 74828 shows the coolant flow direction, (which is incorrect for our applications).

I can only assume the flow direction is opposite on these valves.

Anybody know the difference?

74828: https://www.4s.com/en/ecatalog?part=val ... p&search=s

Through the process of elimination, I'm guessing the 74827 is the one I need.
