Removing mirror glass from 67 rearview mirror
Does anyone know a good way to remove the mirror out of the housing on a 67 bump rearview? I want to refinish the housing on it but don't want to break the mirror getting it out since its in perfect condition........any suggestions?

Re: Removing mirror glass from 67 rearview mirror
FWIW,
On my 67 rear view mirror (one-year only) I got from the junkyard, it was the factory white but with alot of pitted surface rust and dry chalky paint. I just taped off the glass and sprayed a LIGHT coat on the case. ( I used satin black).
To remove glass out of the case I think you would need to de-crimp the edges of the case - this can be done but it usually leaves some blemishes.

Sandblast it with some protection over the glass?
My mirror is starting to lose the silvering from the inside. Only thing I can think of is to break out the mirror and then try to find a glass guy to make me an exact shape and glue it in.
But Ive been down that road before on a Convertible Bug mirror and.., I dont think so.

I have a place close to where I work that can make new for it but this is perfect for being 53 years old........I have used 2 layers of duct tape over glass in a housing i blasted before so I may give it a shot......
