West coast mirror clamp pads

Ive looked everywhere on here but havent found anything saying what was used originally between the mirror clamps and the vertical bar on the west coast mirrors. I just bought a set from flash1 and as im cleaning them up it looks like there was some kind of thin black rubber between the mounts and the bar to help tighten the mirror to the bar. I know on trucks ive had in the past you couldnt keep the mirrors in place going down the road. They would vibrate around making them very annoying. Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Ive thought about this.
I think I would take some kind of thin ABS plastic tubing, cut a piece and then slice it to make the pad thats needed.

I used roofing rubber.

Worked great and lasts a long time.

Was there not something originally there? Once i removed the old stuff and cleaned them up there is a huge space between the bar and the clamps. I work at a small college and thoight about having the guys in the science department 3D print me some thay would fix exact with a little top hat design on the ends so it doesnt slide out when you adjust the mirrors. Ill keep you informed if it works.

They originally had a thin rubber strip wrapped around and butt-jointedunder the clamp.

I took an empty clear plastic bottle, thicker one like one for detergents and cut strips out of it to place under the clamps. Worked well for me.

I used heat shrink tubing on my C/S mirrors.Just make the pieces long because you can't move them once there're shrunk.Adj. mirrors and cut off the extra.
