Scam Website Alert
I was Google Image surfing last night for a pic of the speaker connector on a Bendix 12BT radio when I spotted a picture of my 1963 Unibody. I clicked on the pic and it took me to a website that was selling my truck!
The pic and item description was stolen from a 2014 Ebay ad when I was thinking about selling my truck. There was even a Google map in the ad with my city and state but the pic was of Florida and some of the wording appeared to be written in Russian.
The website is 2040-cars dot com. They also have a parts website, 2040-parts dot com, which is also a bogus site full of stolen photos and ad descriptions.
Here is a link to one of their bogus parts ads, check out the map...
http://www.2040-parts.com/1961-66-ford- ... -i1992151/
I did a scam search and found many posts on other car forums warning people of this site. Steer clear of this place.
Someone has a lot of time and effort invested in this scam. I'm just trying to get the word out.

Re: Scam Website Alert
I had the opposite happen to me - I was selling a motorbike I didn't know I owned. I opened opened my email one day to find I had a couple of hundred messages from people offering to buy a bike I apparently had for sale on eBay. Checked my account, and sure enough, I was selling a Suzuki GSX. Only problem is, I don't own one.
I contacted eBay, and while I was waiting for them to get their ass in gear, I changed my password, and took out huge chunks of text (it was a very nicely put together listing) and replaced it with a warning that someone had hacked my account and the listing was fake. All that did was fill my inbox with people pissed that I hadn't accepted their offer, and I was now lying about it. Best part was when the guy who'd hacked my account messaged me to complain that I'd changed the listing, and it was going to mess with his chances of selling the bike. Couldn't believe the size of the balls on the guy. Eventually eBay contacted me to confirm I'd been hacked (duh...), but it was a sobering experience. Took me a while to delete the hundreds of pissy emails I got too.

Re: Scam Website Alert
These scammers really piss me off.
A guy on another car forum copy/pasted a reply from the scammer, it appears it is a Nigerian type scam. These guys probably get a bunch of responses and if one poor buyer is unaware of these types of scams then they’re going to get taken.

Re: Scam Website Alert
I have a rental house where I live and listed it on Zillow last year for rent. Rented it right away and discontinued the ad. A couple of weeks later I get a message from some girl asking if I own the house and I'm thinking she was wanting to rent it from me. Turns out she was looking at renting it from someone on Facebook which I had never advertised on. She showed me the posts that she went through with the scam artist trying to get money. Just before she sent money she did a little research and found that I was the owner and not someone out of state. Luckily she hadn't sent any money but she came real close. After that I decided that from now on I would put a water mark on any pictures on the Internet when I an selling or renting something. It is easy to do with Word, put your name and phone number with transparency so it is subtle but can be seen easily.
