Bolt everything else up and see what lines up with what. Much easier to do it out of the engine bay.
Will do. I measured the with the timing comer, its the same width. Could the water be neck stick out further?

It happens. I've been able to pull the back cover off and press the pulley flanger further into the shaft using a hydraulic press by supporting the impeller. Shimming out would be easy in comparison.

Question,

I have a new Holley 600. The Holley has a male fitting for the fuel inlet. What should i run from the pump to the carb?

Fuel hose, fuel injection hose, hard line, braided fuel line?

I try to run as much hard line as possible. 6" or less of rubber. Flare the hard line a little so the clamp will hold better.

thanks ranch.

My truck has a Mallory Unilite Distributor. No vacuum assist. Any reason to keep running that unit? I don't know if i should run it or get something else.

Nothing wrong with a Unilite, might as well run it since you have it.

Hows it going... I was expecting motor in truck pictures by now.

Usually I just run whatever cheap stuff is available from Walmart and pour the remainder of the STP that I used to lube the bearings in the pan. Just be sure to prime the oil system before putting the distributor in. Tape the 1/4" socket to the extensions so they don't end up in the pan... I want to say counter clockwise for a good 2 minutes while turning the engine over by hand. Then reset the crank to 15` btdc on the firing stroke and drop the dizzy back in place. Add some gas and it should be ready to fire. keep the RPMs above idle and varied for the first ten minutes of so of smoky mess.

Your choice. Some will say start it with diesel rated oil, others the ZDP stuff. I'm a pretty big fan of not having crazy ramp rates on the cam and feeding them lots of oil.

Ooohhh...tough one. If you have the original 390 radiator I think only an FE fan shroud is going to match the mounting. Not sure how the 302 fan sits compared to the 390 fan though. Fortunately, as long as the fan clears, you can adapt the distance of where the fan sits within the shroud. I ran my 302 without any shroud and never had a coolong issue.
