Well, folks. To quote 68 Ford Stepside (RIP Wayne) yesterday was "A Great Ford Day”...

First of all there’s something to be said for putting the key in your old Ford truck, waiting for the fuel pump to stop running and having it fire on the first try at something like 31 degrees and driving off... :thup: Holley.

Speedo still off (fast) about 6mph at 60, so - 21 tooth gear goes in I suppose.

CTS never got over about 150 gonna have to stick a 180 thermostat in it too I guess.

Headed over to Manny’s place, he had the wood stove and Motor Trend On Demand going :woohoo: Dan is an all around great guy and his project is very cool can’t wait to see that one on the road!

Took the 3.50 gear out of an extra chunk he had and put it and the truetrac into my housing. This all want relatively uneventfully and the contact patch was pretty good on first try, but Dan wanted to make sure it was right so we (he really) spent a good bit of time changing shims, checking rotation, and gear pattern. It is better that when it left Sterling Heights Michigan... (Sterling Axle Plant).

Yes the locks got installed after this picture.

Things did get interesting when it came time to change the axle bearings as someone (I have no idea who would do such a thing :nono: :oops: ) must have left the axles out in the rain and the bearings were well and truly stuck. Dan had them off in short order, and it was clearly not his first rodeo.

I would probably still be wrestling this thing around in the floor... Or have placed an order from Moser... :hmm:

So, I’ll get the housing/chunk/axles assembled this coming week hopefully, and get a parts list to finish it up made up, gotta see if I can find the extra set of stainless axle lines, order spring bushings, wheel cylinders and shoes... and hopefully she will be back on the 9” by first part of February.

OK,

21 tooth gear is pretty close, Ford actually had it right so I should have just trusted the chart. I won’t mess with it anymore until the rear end is swapped...

Definitely going to have to swap the mirrors too... the reproduction “sport" mirrors are junk... glad I kept the old Rotunda West Cost JR mirrors that were on it, gotta find that post on rebuilding them...

:yt: Agreed 100%! I've just got the Sniper system, but as long as the ignition is working properly it starts up first try every time. Had a bad distributor pickup coil or ignition module just after Christmas that gave me a headache.

Had this issue myself with the Sniper unit when I got it up and running. I thought the same, but mine already had a 180° thermostat and installing a new one didn't make a difference. Ended up going to a 195° and swapping out the temp sensor, since then it's warmed up properly and run in the 180°range. Not sure if it was the thermostat or temp sensor that fixed it, but have heard that several of several problems with holley's temperature sensors reading low. We'll see how it works when the weather warms back up.

It was so nice to see a running functioning bump in my driveway!!! Was also fun to build another 9 inch as always glad to help. Hope she gives you a nice set of black stripes from the bfg's! Also thank you guys for the kind a words. :D

It was nice to see a running and functioning bump out of my driveway LOL.

I always forget just how much fun this thing is to drive when I don’t do it for a while.

No one in town has the correct axle flange gaskets (I know I could use gasket maker) so we are stalled until Monday evening.

Got several boxes of goodies.

Flange seals bigger deal than they should have been, tried to get them locally and “Monday after 3” was actually “Thursday after 3”. Probably won’t get a chance to work on it this weekend. :(

Well, I am sick as a dog. (What does that even mean, how sick do dogs actually get, but I digress, I’m sick OK) not to be dissuaded...

I started switching the rear ends, I found out fairly quickly that I have the wrong spring bushings so we will put that off until I can work that out.

The truck is sitting on the nine inch tonight, on the list of to do tomorrow is clean threads on U bolts so I can actually bolt it in, build the brakes, bleed the brakes and paint the shocks...

Progress, slow progress but progress nonetheless.

Well the shock paint did not turn out too well, probably both too cold and too humid turned out very cloudy, will let it cure for 48 hours per directions and try again. Might have to make my heated paint booth again (little giant with a tarp and a space heater) :hd:

As I said, wrong spring bushings, i figure this is just someone telling me to go ahead and order Caltracs, also have to order rear drums they are pretty ugly.

9 inch apparently moved the drive shaft enough to make the mufflers hit the driveshaft so some exhaust adjustment is in order.

Pardon the mess...
