Gear indicator light steering column

Post by timachone »

Hi guys,

does a gear indicator light exists on the steering column of the 1970 Ford trucks?

It would be a good invest at night when the wife will drive the truck...

humm, so then, anyone know if a dent side steering column will work in a bump side? making the light work would be easy

Ok, too bad...

Is there any mod possible or have the wife live with that?

I won't do a column change because of that... :P

I guess anything's possible. I can see it with a small LED pigtail. You'd have to drill a hole/slot in the collar, behind the indicator, and the figure out to run the wiring down thru the column like the OEM harness to wire it into the light switch.

GM used fiber optic on ashtray lighting back in the 60s. It ran from a dash light and terminated above the ashtray. If you could find a donor, it clips on the bulb socket and fish it up the column

Hey guys,

that are both good ideas, thank you for the input

I found some of the fiber optic cables on epay 71cc mentioned, for example

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Chevy-truck-GMC ... %7Ciid%3A1

Never heard of them before but seems like a good and clean solution if the cable would be long enough...

Cheers,
