What year 302 is in your truck? My Ranger has the 302 HO from a 1985 GT. It has the 351 firing order as did all the H.O. 302's from that era. Funny thing is, it was "high output" for that time. The 302 in my 2014 Mustang is as big as the 429 in my 69 bump side and has double the HP of the stock 85 engine.
The year is still a mystery. It originally had a 360. It know now has a 302 with 351 heads. It has a Mercury tag on the block. I think this means ford put an engine in at some point. It is running the 351 firing order.

I am still trying to figure out all the changes since 1971.

Are you 100% sure its a 302 block? I've seen a good number of them misidentified, even by the person that installed them.

Post some pictures of the weight on the balancer and flywheel if you have them. Might even be a 5.0, not a 302...

Small block fords have an imbalance built into the crank that is compensated for by a weight on the flex plate and harmonic balancer. Since you don't know what flavor engine you have it'll help to know what the imbalance is. Probably wouldn't make much difference long term but might help you get the correct parts.

3 bolt pulley is pre 1970.

Is that timing over iron and not aluminum? Never seen an iron one.

No not a rabbit hole at all. Those iron covers were used on 289 302 and 351W and some marine engines in boats. so they were kindof common at one point. Just really heavy though.

Never seen one in cars or trucks. Industrial duty sounds plausible. Really adds some questions to what you have and where it came from. What does the tag on the back of the engine say. Mercury as in Mercury Marine as in prior I/O or direct shaft engine?

It's a mystery I say... :?
