Hi guys,
see my question above... It is a bit stained but otherwise ok so I am thinking about to cover it with something, e.g. vinyl. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim

The headliner in my 75 has a textured vinyl covering (black) that has held up very well. It was in the truck when I bought it 23 years ago, so I know it's older than that. The vinyl covering is easier to keep clean and reinforces the paperboard. The vinyl is attached with adhesive and is just rolled over the top 1" or so.

I believe the fiberboard/cardboard was all there was available on the bump sides as factory.

Ok, so it seems that cardboard only was the original appearance.
The idea of vinyl attached over it with adhesive is nice and seems easy doable

Re: Headliner in 1970 cardboard only as standard?
My original was crumbling and warped. I used it as a pattern and cut a piece from a sheet of what some people call showerboard. Like a thin piece of Masonite with a shiny white waterproof side. Used contact cement to attach of all things a remnant of black short nap indoor outdoor carpet. It actually feels and looks like a microfiber or velour fabric. Never would guess it was carpet. Had planned to use a piece of perforated vinyl but after I got carpet in I decided cloth or something would look better.
