First off, nice score on those doors and cab mounts! Second I understand on trying to fix the core support, those things are like gold. Lastly nice job on cleaning up the cam and pistons!

Thanks.

I've got to do a little reconstruction on the very ends of cab mounts where they meet the floor, but they're otherwise good shape. Lord knows they've got to be stronger than the stamped sheet metal ones I have.

I spent the better part of the day cleaning up around the truck. I can't work on it if I can't get to it.

I am hoping to have the engine & transmission out of it before Halloween and would love to have the floorboards patched up before Thanksgiving. If Winter comes early this year, I'll switch over to fixing up the body panels and rebuilding the engine.

One step back...

It looks like the crank will be visiting the machine shop when the block goes. It's already 0.020" under so I hope there's enough meat left in the rod journals for them all to be turned down another notch.

Started getting the 360 ready to come out today. Maybe I'll have it in the garage by the end of next weekend...

I finally found the head casting number - C8AE-H - which is consistent with the engine being mostly original to the truck. I'll have to add prepping the heads for unleaded gas to my list of things to do. I also discovered that the engine has locked up from sitting so long. I'll soak the cylinders in ATF a bit once I get the heads off and see if I can't get it loosened up before disassembling it the rest of the way.

Great progress, sorry to see that crank. I am hoping it cleans up at 30 under.

In spite of sporadic rain, I've got the engine almost ready to pull tomorrow. I just need to drain the oil from both the engine & trans, remove the clutch linkage, drop the driveshaft, pull the trans, and it should be ready to come out.

The project is coming along well. Looks like you got some good reading material for those rainy days, which will help you do your homework on the direction you want to go with your FE.

Finally got a break in the weather and Honey-do list this afternoon so I thought I'd get the engine & transmission out.

Now I just need to get the bell housing, clutch, and flywheel out of the way so I can get it on my engine stand.

The focus is terrible on the pictures, but you get the idea.

That’s the plan. When it’s too cold to work outside, I can work inside.
