what are the major leak points?
Can anyone give me an idea of what the major leak points are on a 1970 model? On my '65 the drip rails, antenna and wiper shafts were where 99% of the water came in. Is it a similar deal on the early 70's models?

Yes your on track but also focus on the fresh air path, (like the leaves do when they fall onto the hood area)."redstone65"]Can anyone give me an idea of what the major leak points are on a 1970 model? Take both fresh air vents out of the insaide kick panel area, (like four screws holding each side in).
Vacuum the area of all leaf debris, (I'd gone one step farther and ran a water hose inside and washed and scrubbed the inside areas there too).
When the leaf debris enters via the fresh air cowl vent area just below the windshield the path they take sends them to the bottom of that area rotting out the inside of the kick panels.

Re: what are the major leak points?
Thanks for that info.
When I look at the wiper posts, it looks like they go through the cowl below a piece of the top. Is it still a leak point even though it's not as exposed as the ones on the slicks?

Yes the wiper shafts are a major leak point. Best to plan on having a set of gaskets on hand to install whuile your there as the gaskets are only about $5.00.

For completeness of this thread for future searchers, here is what I ended up doing on the wiper shaft gaskets:

Used neoprene instead of leather.

Always wondered: How do you get to the wiper shafts?

The wipers drop down into the cab from underneath the dash, (you have to remove the glove box and the defroster ducts which isn't too hard)."3 Speed"]Always wondered: How do you get to the wiper shafts?
They're held on with three screws, (5/16 hex head if memory serves me right).

Re: what are the major leak points?
That clip (#17531) joining the two arms together is a PITA, but you have to remove it to get the driver's side pivot assembly all the way out. I ended up getting it off using a mechanics pick. Just have to feel for it and be patient.
Great video on it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMgffFkvFpM

Re: what are the major leak points?
Just my .02 when I replaced both of these gaskets.
I didn't remove the clip because it was just too much hassle. The driver side bottom bolt is covered by the arm. So just turn the key on, turn the wiper on, and shut the key off when the arm gets out of the way. When you are done, turn the key back on and the wiper will reset back to closed.
