First oil change on rebuild?

Post by luke-ao »

How soon for the first oil change on a fresh rebuilt engine, Edelbrock says the break-in on the cam is 30 minutes @ 2000 rpm plus, do you guys typically do the first oil change then?

I usually dump after cam break in, then i put the break in additive in the oil and drive around for a few hundred miles then dump again. i figure oil and filters are cheap.......

Cool, that's what I'll do. What additive are you talking about?

Make sure that stuff is in your oil when you break in the cam too. not just after.

I have just rebuild a 302 and I was told to use Mobile One do the break in for 50 miles and then drain and do Mobile One again and change filters and then go for about 500 miles and then put what you want into it. I thought the Royal Purple break in oil would be the one to use along with one of their filters, any thought, comments? Thank you for any input.

I used Comp Cams break-in oil on my 352 for 20 minutes, then drained, and ran it again for the first 1,000 miles. After that, I'm running Valvoline VR-1 synthetic racing oil, because of the zinc (and because it got high ratings in several lists).
