Has anyone used Stage 8 Header Bolts? They incorporate this funky clip so the exhaust bolts can't back out once you torque them down. I'm fighting an exhaust leak, and wondering if it's worth the $60+ for these bolts.

Re: Stage 8 Header Bolts?
No experience with the bolts you mentioned, however, if you use good quality bolts (grade 8’s or better) with a proper lock washer and proper torque values, they seem to hold for me. Also make sure you lubricate the bolts with a good high temperature never sneeze like N7000. Best of luck

I have some (in fact the bolts may be what is on my truck) but the locks were too short to do any good on the top IIRC... been a while...

Pick up some Nord-Lock washers and don't use paper gaskets.

Re: Stage 8 Header Bolts?
I have them on a couple of engines and they work fine. I also like them for the 1" under head length and 12pt head. If you're using them on a FE make sure you get the set for a big block as the "tear drop" locks in the small block kit will be too short.

Still have manifolds, but I'm going to try to put Sanderson Shorties this year.1972hiboy wrote:you still have manifolds or headers on your truck?

I used the Nord-Lock washers when I converted the front end from drum to disc brakes. The guy at Fastenal thought I was nuts!Ranchero50 wrote:Pick up some Nord-Lock washers and don't use paper gaskets.

Re: Stage 8 Header Bolts?
While on the subject,... I fought exhaust manifold leaks with my headers for years....constantly having to change the composite gaskets... finally solved the leak problem by using the thick copper gaskets (which are re-usable)... no more leaks!!!!
