66 Going back to stock, I hope...
So this 66 F100 4 Wheel Drive had a ton of (really sub par) work done on it before I rescued it, including what I feel was an unwise lift.
Looking at the manuals, in the rear it shows a "spacer" between the spring seat and the spring. Question is, in stock configuration, how tall is this "spacer"? The one that is in there now is just shy of 7 inches tall, clearly adding to the overall instability of this lift. Need to get it back to stock, but can't find the necessary detail to tell me how tall this part should be.
Any thoughts?

Re: 66 Going back to stock, I hope...
Interesting responses, thanks. I found something that says the bed height (top) should be about 50 inches. Way above that now of course but you each mentioned something that gives me more questions to explore...
It appears some f250 parts may have been cloned onto this truck (like the 8 lug 16 inch wheels). At the same time is a mention of highboy... Factory/dealer option? How is that term defined? Is my assumption that some crazy aftermarket lift was done incorrect perhaps?

So you have 8 lug axles on F-100 but originally they would have been 5 so can you identify which axles you have? Does you F-100 still have a coil spring front suspension?

ok, here is more..
The transfer case is D3TA7A195AA. Yep, 73.
New question; if placed in 4x2 mode, should the front driveshaft be turning when driving? Mine turns regardless of selection. Confusing as hell to this newbie.

You also have to unlock the front hubs.66CustomCab wrote: if placed in 4x2 mode, should the front driveshaft be turning when driving? Mine turns regardless of selection. Confusing as hell to this newbie.
If you don't have locking hubs , just a smooth cap , that axle came with a full time 4X4 T case (NP203)
And for a little more confusion there is a kit to convert a 203 to part time .
You should do an image search for NP (New Process) 203 (full time) and NP205 (part time)
Is there a drive shaft between the trans and T case , or is it mated to the transmission.

Go to our home page tech section, there is a good article on T cases.

Thanks! That page on Transfer Cases did the trick. It is indeed an NP205. Clearly the handle in the cab simply listing 2WD or 4WD confused the heck out of me. Once I learned there are actually 4 positions rather than just 2, everything made sense.
