Post by Bill Ramsey »

Does anybody make a quality firewall insulation pad? I am NOT talking about the ABS plastic piece of **** that all of the vendors sell.

The ABS firewall is a quality piece. But not hardboard like the original.

It is not. I have one. the rubber strip on the bottom melted in the sun, and the rest rotted. the pieces in the perforated holes broke off and fell out.

like i said, its crap.

Rotted? You must have some serious leaking somewhere.

And for the pop-outs that are not needed for your application, you’d do well to back them up with some kind of reinforcement so they don’t pop out. Maybe some kind of backing glued on with some weatherstrip adhesive or something.

I sure hope the bottom rubber piece did not melt just in the direct sunlight.
Mine is holding up well and doing it’s job.

Leaking? hell it hardly rains here. skies so blue, you have to squint just to look at it...

almost all aftermarket rubber parts degrade and rot around here except for quality rubber. Dennis Carpenter realizes this and sells some good window rubber. when i say melted in the sun, yeah the rubber strip on the bottom glued and molded itself to the carpet. wasnt even that hot. gas filler grommet is bad also, large cracks after a couple months. both came from LMC. I dont buy ANYTHING from them anymore.

I got mine from a company called Repops Automotive - it is made like the original was made - rubber with insulation on the back and the strip sewed on the bottom. It did not fit exactly like the original - transmission hump did not fit right but is not bad enough to not use and if you have manual steering the bottom of the hole for the steering column will have to be cut a little more to fit but if you're not looking at a full restoration show truck - mine is just a nice old driver - it will do alright. I don't know how well it will fare in the sun all the time since mine doesn't set outside.........

http://www.repops.com

They don't have prices on the site so you may have to find a dealer that sells their products......I can't remember where I got mine but if I can find the receipt I will post it here......

And I had the same problems with rubber parts from LMC..........I pay the extra and go with Dennis Carpenter......its worth it....... :D

And mine came from Dennis Carpenter. I was thinking there’s only one manufacturer.

I got a RePop from a vender on ebay. It's not perfect but it's good enough for a daily driver.

I ordered one of those pieces of **** from E-bay and sent it back. I ordered one from QuietRide solutions and am awaiting delivery. Their website is very indepth and sounds like their products are top notch. I know their Accoustishield kits are excellent. I'll post pics when it arrives.
