How much is it going to cost to purchase the transmission and to put it in? Will you do the work yourself? If it cost's you $1500 total to do the swap, and you get an extra 2 mpg, it may take you a long time to pay yourself back, depending on how much you drive it. But, if you are looking for an excuse to start a project, then...TALLYHO!

Any updates on the 6 speed ? I have a 74 f100 with a efi converted 390 I want to do this with.

I have sadly since sold my truck but the 6 speed was terrific. It was a Tremec Magnum. I had to buy a different bellhousing and go with a hydraulic clutch, but the set up was top notch. I can't recall all the numbers, but at 80 mph it was humming along at something around 2k rpms. It got around 13 mph on the highway with a built 390, 600 cfm Holley, and a 4:11 rear gear.
