Adjusting clutch on np435
I'm having a problem with my clutch on a 1970 ford f250 4x4. The clutch engages with the slightest movement of the clutch pedal. I have about 1 to 1 1/2" of free travel in the pedal. Having a problem downshifting from 4th to third. How can I solve this problem? Just had the transmission out to replace the clutch fork pivot clip. Clutch looked fine. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Adjusting clutch on np435
Well,... this is the way I do it....
Take the inspection cover off from the bottom of the flywheel. Look up in there at the Throw out bearing. I then adjust the clutch rod linkage so that the Throw out bearing is close but not touching the pressure plate springs. Say 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap.
If the bearing is touching the pressure plate it means it will be spinning all of the time and will prematurely fail.
hope this helps,
Lee

Re: Adjusting clutch on np435
Ive seen pressure plates drag due to worn levers. Even though your free play is right it will still drag. Are you able to shift it into first at idle without grinding? That should tell you whether or not the clutch is disengaging completely.
