Dynamat
I added dynamat insulation padding to the doors and floors of my 69 F-250 today, I can't say it was my favorite experience but it really seemed to make things quieter.

Re: Dynamat
What a great idea. Did it make a noticeable difference?
I found a similar product, Fatmat, that is well regarded by Amazon reviewers. It is less expensive by almost half, and, according to reviewers, easier to work with.
Although I appreciate the visceral experience of hearing the unfiltered roar of the engine and whistling of the wind while driving the old truck, and it certainly makes it sound faster, I wouldn't mind it if mine was a bit quieter.

Re: Dynamat
I got the complete kit off of E-bay which consisted of the roof kit, the behind the fuel tank kit, the front and rear floor kit, and the kit for both doors. This was a very complete kit with 2 cans of 3M spray adhesive, roller, full instructions etc. The kits had tar covered dampening pads and then foil coated jute backed insulation pads. I paid 299.00.

Re: Dynamat
I've considered these types of mat but my concern is what happens in ten years down the road? What if the metal under it rusts? I would imagine the tar would never come off and you couldn't weld because of fire issues. Will it not rust? I just don't know enough about it.

Re: Dynamat
Always a good idea to paint the floors with some good rust preventative coating like POR-15, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, Lizard Skin or even smooth bed liner before installing. You want a smooth surface so the mat will stick properly. I coated mine with Eastwood RE then topcoated with Chassis Black. I went cheap on mine though.

This what i used https://www.lowes.com/pd/Peel-Seal-Inst ... ng/1018733 and it worked perfect. I read about it on a lot of audio boards. I could tell a difference once i put in and it was a lot cheaper.

Re: Dynamat
Peel & Seal is what I'm going with after hearing recommendations from a few members, including sargentrs. I have some rolls waiting for me to get my butt in gear and finish my cab. Home Depot have a similar product but it gives off a really strong odor apparently, so beware. Do a search for it on Fordification and you'll see a lot of satisfied posters. It can be topped off with a product called EZ Cool (http://www.lobucrod.com/) to really quieten things down inside the cab.

Re: Dynamat
My buddy used Fatmat in his Dart and VW Caddy and I have used it in my VW Caddy. When it comes time to start the assembly of my F100 interior, it will receive the same treatment. The stuff works great to cut down on noise and help to insulate the cab. Time consuming on some surfaces, but overall not a difficult process.

Re: Dynamat
How much did you use, and what areas did you cover? Sounds like everyone loves this stuff, so now I'm thinking of doing my cab, and wondering how much I'll need.windhamdw wrote:This what i used https://www.lowes.com/pd/Peel-Seal-Inst ... ng/1018733 and it worked perfect. i did all of the floor, hump, under seat and up the back wall where the gas is. I think it took two or three rolls.

Re: Dynamat
To complicate further i used a product called rockmat from rockville. Ebay 50 square feet for 90 dollars. I did my brothers 1989 f 250 diesel. Worked very very well. I think it does not matter what you use anything can help these old trucks

Re: Dynamat
Me too. From the seam at the top of the trans tunnel, all the way up the back. 2 rolls was not quite enough. I had to buy the 3rd roll to cover the back of the cab where the gas tank was and had some left over. If you want to cover all the way up the firewall, roof, etc, you'll need more. Used the foil type duct tape to seal the seams.windhamdw wrote:i did all of the floor, hump, under seat and up the back wall where the gas is. I think it took two or three rolls.
