1968 F250 Disc Brake Conversion Kit
Ok. I recently bought a 68 f250 with the hopes of this being my first project truck. I am very nervous about its lack of stopping power and began looking at disc brake conversion kits. Are there no kits out there for F250? Any suggestions? I have adjusted the drum brakes already. Just looking for some help from experienced owners.

Most economical is find a donor truck..our trucks were available with Dayton twin piston disc. The 70-72 , 73-74, and 75 and later iirc are slight variations. Replacement parts are not plentiful or inexpensive so a good donor is worth looking for.

The only two pieces that HAVE to come from a donor are the dust shield and the anchor bracket, the round bracket with two "arms" that hold the caliper. The calipers, rotors, and rubber brake lines are available at parts stores. Some have said that you have to get the brake line brackets as well, but my original drum line brackets worked fine when I converted Frodo to discs. If you do not have power brakes, you will need to convert to those as well. That is a simple matter of getting the booster for your year and the brackets for the booster.
If possible, get these parts from a pre-72 donor, as the anchor bracket bushing setup changed mid-year. Later brackets will still work, but you will have to know what year they are to get the correct bushings. I would really recommend getting calipers correct for your year of truck. In mid-72 some of the features of the calipers changed. Getting calipers for your year of truck will make it much easier to obtain parts down the line. Here is how I did my '69:

This would also be the ideal time to replace your worn out suspension bushings as well.

Thanks Flyboy. So all I need from donor is dust shield and bracket from donor car. What about this proportioning valve that everyone speaks of? I am having a hard time finding a donor car...not many junkyards with f250 hanging around. Any ideas?

There are two styles of proportioning valves. The original style for our year truck is mounted on the inside of the frame on the drivers side. The later style (that I went with) is mounted to a bracket bolted to the top of the power steering box. I bought a new valve from NPD for about $60 when I did mine.

Thanks man. I actually found a guy with an entire front end from a '71 F250 with Power Booster, Master Cylinder and Proportioning valve. Pretty excited.

I've been following you guys and reading the threads on this conversion for my '68 F250, but I've had zero luck finding the donor parts. Any suggestions or is it simply keep calling and hitting the search button? Would a complete front end swap from later models or other vehicles be an option? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found a guy with a 71 front arms with disc brakes. I bought those. I found mine using Facebook. Join the group Fixem Your Way 67-72 Ford F100. Where you at? I will keep my eyes open.

I still have my rolling '71 F250 Frame that I install mid 70's disc brakes on if you are interested. Dana 60 with 4.11's in the back. I'm not going to do anything with it.
