What would you pay for floor pans installed?

Post by rwilly »

My 68 needs pans. I was talking to guy that was interested in horse trading for me for putting floor pans in. I already have the pans from DC.
What would you pay for having them installed?
I suppose it would depend on technique?
Rivets, or weld, or some other form.
Would you pay $800.00 to have them welded in?

Who is doing what work? Are you taking a stripped truck to the guy or is he coming to your place to do the welding? If the truck is stripped I couldn't see paying more than $200-$300. If you're dropping the truck off and he has to remove and replace everything then I could see it being $800-$1000. Rivets? I wouldn't pay someone to rivet my floorpans in I'd do it myself. But remember this is just my :2cents:

One does not pop rivet structural members on pickup trucks... If it's even part of the discussion, you are talking to the wrong guy.

Price is $1 per minute on the gun, 50-75 cents to prep. Do the prep work yourself and have him weld it. Make sure you have a good conversation on what type of overlap or butt joint fit he wants. If it's overlap, run some self tapping screws through the panels to lock them in place. I like 1/2" of overlap. Make sure the cab mounts are in the correct position before welding too. Sucks if they aren't afterwards.

Nobody rivets them in? I coulda swore I saw some posts about guys choosing to rivet them in.

I've got the seat out and the tank out(again), I didn't plan on putting in the whole pan, just cutting out the rusted areas, maybe running the pans up half way to where the seam is.
But if there is a pro doing, that's different.

I have something that the guy would like to have, and I when I mentioned that I need pans installed in the truck, his ears perked up. There were no details talked about. I'm thinking if he has experience, and can weld them in correctly then it would be worth quite abit to me, it would save me that time and hassel.
It wouldn't be a "learning experience" for me. IE: "Hey, its not a pro job, but pretty good considering I did it myself"

I'm thinking $800.00 is too much. Thanks for your thoughts, I will have to ponder things for abit.

The thing is if you don't put them in correctly the lines of the truck are screwed up.
