1972 Hi-Boy
Looking for some help here guys: I ve located a 1972 hi-Boy near where I live in Texas, we have been hunting for one for a couple of years. Here are problems:
1) Lots of rust on the cab, basically the cab is ruined. drip rail rotted out about 1 1/2" all the way around, floor boards bad, cab corners bad, front cab mounts completely rotted through.
2) no motor but drive train intact
3) fenders bad, hood one major dent might work, no grill, bed in poor shape but might work for a driver.
Good:
1)drive train intact and appears to be original.
2) interior mostly intact and original ( not usable but all there )
3) local to me
Here is the question: owner asking 1,800 and pretty firm, down here that seems really high considering the price of other non hi-boy bumpsides in the area. anyone have any input on price? in such condition?

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
Sorry but by going off just your description and not actually seeing the truck, I would pass on that truck. The price to me seems way to high for a truck that needs so much work. But then I live out here in Cali and the value of those trucks might be slightly different than there. If you really wanted it and he was flexible on the price, I would maybe offer him half of what he is asking, considering the rust issues.

Great guys, that is just what we were thinking I appreciate the feedback. I guess I will need to look outside of Texas for a truck.

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
I'm in St Louis but I've been looking on the Albuquerque NM and Phoenix AZ craigslist's.
Usually good ones on both.
I've been in both areas quite a few times would be easy to fly down and drive back.

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
I have looked there. The deal may have become doable. there is also a 68 2wd, truck that runs and drives in pretty decent shape, we made an offer for both trucks and he is considering it.

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
OK, we ended up with two trucks. Running driving 68 F100 390 truck had the 390 badges on it at one time, and the 72 Hi-boy, Ended up that in the day light the hi-boy is a little better than I originally thought, but not much. Ill post some pics when I get them transfered.

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
ok, here's a couple pics. Also found a really clean cab, virtually not rust. I may not dismantle the 1968

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
So is this the same 72 that was basically a roller for $1800.00? I would swap the 68 cab and engine into the 72 and part the rest off the 68 off to recoup some funds.

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
it is, We got a pretty good deal on both truck from the same guy. The 68 is actually pretty clean and could be a driver with a little $. I am thinking of selling 68 complete to recoup money for the project. I have a good cab for the 72

Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
Sounds like a good plan! If that 68 is as clean as it looks in the pics, you will have some good spending money for the Highboy when the 68' sells.tnab1970 wrote:it is, We got a pretty good deal on both truck from the same guy. Re: 1972 Hi-Boy
Or if the body is rust free put that body on the hiboy frame since it sounds like most the body from the 4x4 isn't useable
