4x4 between the frame fuel tank
I know that there are several threads on adding a between the frame fuel tank on 2wd rigs, but has anyone ever added, and have documented or has photos, of doing this on a 4wd? My father and I did this with a fuel tank removed from a 85 F250 diesel in the 90's and made it work, but I sold that vehicle many years ago, and don't have any pics or documentation. I was planning on doing this again, and if I have to use the same fuel tank, but it had one big issues, you had to turn it sideways and due to the long hose, it took forever to fill due to back pressure.
Is there any other fuel tanks that someone may have used that may be better suited? I plan on using a fuel access door through the bed similar to that on later models. Any info would be helpful.

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
im going to assume your thinking of doing this on your 70 f250. it would have to be a special shaped tank I think. since these trucks are divorced t-case and long driveline and exhaust, fitment is a big issue. there is just alot going on inbetween the frame. the later 80s trucks had a married t-case setup and maybe that afforded more room. All the extra fuel tanks ive seen on a f250 4x4 of these vintage have been outboard the frame.

I used a 1984 Bronco II fuel tank. You can see it here:

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
I see many cut the cross member, which I am trying to avoid, and I did in the previous mod on my 71 F250 4x4. I'll try and look into the Scout tank, but perhaps I could get the 85 F250 Diesel tank and relocate the filler neck on appropriate side if the scout doesn't accomplish this.
But please keep the ideas coming!

Aero Tanks makes an aluminized steel tank that fits our trucks where the spare tire is located. It is notched to go around the stock cross-member and it holds 32 gallons, the stock number is #1028. It is a bit pricey but it looks well made. 460crew had one in his truck before he did his Cummins swap and had a pic of the tank on his Project Updates page. I hope that helps.

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
I've looked at that page like six times and never saw that before....drrrrrrrrr!
Anyone have a part number or source for that auxiliary fuel tank? I found several metal fuel tanks that say they are the rear for a 76 f250 4x4, but they don't look similar

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
Here are a few picturess of when I installed the tank, I had to move a frame brace and I put the fill tube thru the frame, I welded a sleeve in the hole I cut in the frame. My fill is inside the rear tire wheel well out of sight. The first picture shows the fill tube. The tank is 19 Gal & from MTS Mod # 3019EHIO Silver wrote:tpdaniels used a 72-80 International Scout tank. He's got pics in here.... somewhere.

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
Thanks, I like the tank you installed, not keen on putting it through the frame, but I bet you could run a hose up through the bed. To each their own.....I am working out a deal, lets hope it goes through! I'll keep you up to date.

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
I have a 1969 F100 LWB. I used an 1986 Bronco 33 gallon tank with heavy duty skid plate. I had to take a plasma cutter to just the bottom lip of the rear frame rail, approximately 1/8 inch taken from each side. Also had to relocate the cross members. Used a fuel door/filler neck from a 1994 F250 (also notched the frame to clear it - just like the new F150's). It was quite the project but worth it in the long run. I have a few picks on my home PC I could post at a later time if anyone is interested.

Re: 4x4 between the frame fuel tank
I ended up getting a 32 gallon used aero tank. Got some fuel line fabrication to do and some fit up verification, but all should go well!
